Litigation The firm has an experienced team of litigation experts for both the higher and the lower judiciary. In the higher judiciary, i.e. the High Court Division and the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, the firm conducts constitutional (writ), civil, criminal, company and other cases. Civil cases of the lower judiciary are conducted by the lawyers of the firm provided that the case is within the territorial jurisdiction of Dhaka District. Cases of other districts are received only when the firm is capable of providing that particular service. Criminal cases of the lower judiciary are very selectively conducted by the firm. These are mostly dealt with through lawyers who are not members but are associated with the firm in different capacities. The firm also conducts cases before the administrative tribunals, labour courts, settlement courts, family courts, environmental courts and a number of other specialized courts.

Documentation The firm offers assistance in all types of legal documentation. Assistance is also provided to register all sorts of documents and deeds with appropriate authorities.

Business and Commerce Regular service is provided to a number of multinational and local companies on all legal aspects of doing business in Bangladesh. It includes foreign investment, formation of companies, trusts, societies and cooperatives, employment law, labour matters, contracts, money claims, loan arrangements, mortgage, lease, license, compensation and damages, bailment, agency, banking laws, laws of carriage, letters of credit etc. The firm also offers assistance to its clients to register with various authorities, to obtain and procure licenses, permissions, certificates and authorizations from different government departments.

Family Matters: All matters relating to family laws are given due focus stressing on the humane aspects. Problems relating to marriage, divorce, dower, maintenance, custody of child, inheritance etc. are solved through negotiation, arbitration, conciliation proceedings, and in the last resort, by applying to the family court. There are a considerable number of cases dealing with expatriate Bangladeshi families. The Firm has expertise and experience on matters relating to Bangladeshi minorities residing overseas.

Real Estate: The firm has a strong tradition of dealing with real estates. It provides all out assistance in the purchase and transfer of real estates including execution and registration of all relevant documents. Incidents of lease, license, mortgage etc. are also dealt with.

Alternate Dispute Resolution: ADR is in its budding state in Bangladesh. In recent years, the firm very successfully broadened its capacity to deal with negotiations, mediation and arbitration. Our experience in conducting arbitration cases under the local laws is combined with our understanding of the mores and cultures of multinational companies.

Public Interest Law: The firm has a reputation in dealing with public interest law. Our lawyers are providing service to a number of NGOs and other voluntary sector organisations either on behalf of the firm or in their individual capacity. We have probably the best experts on public interest litigation in Bangladesh.

Fiscal Laws: The firm has affiliates to assist the clients in income tax matters. Taxation and Customs matters are dealt with only when under the jurisdiction of the High Court Division.

Research and reporting: The firm has an excellent record of conducting legal research for multinational companies and national and international NGOs.
